In the Parliament election of the year 2001 held under the Caretaker Govt., the main contestants were the Bangladesh Awami League and the Four Party Alliance headed by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).The Four Party Alliance captured 5 seats out of a total of 6 in Noakhali district. The elected members are-Mr. Zainal Abedin Faruk, Noakhali-1 (Senbagh ), Mr. M A Hasem, Noakhali-2 (Begumganj-Sonaimuri), Advocate Mahbubur Rahman, Noakhali-3 (Chatkhil), Mr. Md. Shajahan, Noakhali-4 (Char Jabbar & part of Sadar Upazilla) Barrister Moudud Ahmad, Noakhali-5 (Companiganj & part of Sadar Upazilla) and
