Lakshmipur could not make any remarkable achievement in sports during the British and Pakistan period. Since the independence of Bangladesh, Lakshmipur has been playing its due role in the field of sports. Football was popular in the  pre-liberation period also. But Cricket has gained popularity among the younger generation after the recognition of Bangladesh as a Test Cricket-playing nation. Everywhere in Lakshmipur, especially in the urban area, groups of young people are found playing Cricket. For want of good play ground, particularly stadium for Football or Cricket, these two games could not get a speed so long. Sponsors are not coming up spontaneously to encourage these games. Syed Badrul Alam, a noted businessman and industrialist of this region, sponsored Wills Cricket Leauge a few months ago in the Lakshmipur Stadium. The establishment of modern stadiums both for Football and Cricket is a demand of the time.

Some illustrious sons of Lakshmipur have made valuable contribution in the field of sports at the national level. Mr. Harunur Rashid, former Secretary General of Bangladesh Football Federation, was also a member of the Parliament from Raipur. But he was dedicated for the advancement of Football in the country including his own area.

Another talented son of Lakshmipur, Advocate Giasuddin Chowdhury (Income-Tax Adviser), is very interested in sports, particularly in shooting. He is representing the National Shooting Federation. His wife, Kazi Shahana, is a famous shooter who won a gold medal in the Commonwealth games. The people of greater Noakhali, particularly of Lakshmipur, are proud of her.
