Lakshmipur District stands by the side of river Meghna. It is called the gift of Meghna. The roaring Meghna on the one hand snatched away the belongings of the people but on the other hand it has returned back a vast area of land to the people. Lakshmipur is the gift of this mighty but kind river. Like the people of Noakhali district, the people of Lakshmipur also lead a simple life. The economy is agro-based, but the modern system of cultivation has not yet been introduced in the area. 80% of the man-folk is engaged in cultivation of rice, jute, sugarcane 

and cereals. The main agricultural  products are coconut and betel-nut. These are most sent to other parts of the country. A group of people are engaged in the production and maintenance of betel-nut gardens. Owing to nearness and easy excess to the Meghna, a large number of people lead their lives as fishermen. Inspite of immense possibilities, a river-port has not yet been established by the side of the Meghna. If a river-port is established, it could change the lifestyle of the people of this area. The rate of literacy is the highest in comparison to that of the other two districts of Greater Noakhali. The young and able-bodied people are engaged in services within Bangladesh or abroad. The general people of Lakshmipur region are followers of religion and lead a simple life.
