He started his service
career in the Agricultural Development Finance Corporation, Dhaka with head office in Karachi as Investigation Officer in 1958. Then he sat for the competitive Examination conducted by the Public Service Commission. Being successful he was appointed by the Government in the then East Pakistan Secretariat Service and joined as Section Officer in 1960. In the same year he also sat for the then East Pakistan Civil Service Examination conducted by the Public Service Commission and being successful he was appointed by the Government in the then East Pakistan Civil Service as Extra Assistant Commissioner in the year 1961. He served as Deputy Magistrate and Deputy Collector in different Sub-Divisions and Districts from 1961-1964. He worked as Project Director, Comilla District Integrated Rural Development Programme from 1964-68. He was one of the Pioneers of the Comilla Model Rural Development through two tier Co-operative Movement introduced by Akhter Hamid Khan then Director of the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development (PARD), Comilla now known as BARD.

Mr. Hossain Khan worked as Resident Magistrate, Sherpur
having Jurisdiction over four (04) thanas. He also worked
as Chairman, Sherpur Municipality and Chairman, Sherpur
Thana Council. He had the unique opportunity of being
the Centennial Chairman of the Sherpur Municipality.
During his time the Municipality observed hundred years
of its establishment and providing Municipal Service
to the people of the locality.
He had the opportunity of working in the then Pakistan
Secretariat, Islamabad, Capital of Pakistan.
He was Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Jhenaidah Sub-Division
during the period from 1974-75 and Addl. Deputy Commissioner
(General), Chittagong from 1975-77. He also worked as
Member, Offshore Islands Development Board and Head
of Estate Department (CEO) of Bangladesh Railways.
Mr. Hossain served as Deputy Secretary, Ministry of
Fisheries and Livestock for the period from 1982-84.
He was the first Civil Servant to be appointed in the
Department of Fisheries as Addl. Director of Fisheries
and later Project Director, Shrimp Culture Development
Project. The department is considered as the domain
of the Fishery Experts/Professionals. So his appointment
in the Department was unique in nature.
He worked as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment
and Forest during the year 1988-91. After the devastating
Cyclone of April, 1991 he moved to the Ministry of Relief
later renamed as Ministry of Disaster Management and
Relief which is the focal point for disaster related
activities in Bangladesh. As Joint Secretary he was
actively engaged in reaching and providing all assistance
to the Victims of 1991 April Cyclone that devasted 19
districts of Bangladesh. He successfully tackled the
situation created out of successive floods of 1991 and
1993.
He also worked as Director General, Disaster Management
Bureau (DMB) and Director General, Deptt. of Relief
and Rehabilitation.
During his service period he attended and received Training
from the following institutions -
* As a British Council Scholar he attended Birmingham
University (UK) for one year and obtained
Post Graduate Diploma in Development
Administration during the year 1978-79.
* Gazetted Officers' Training Academy, Dhaka for 06
months.
* Local Govt. Institute, Dhaka.
* Census, Survey and Settlement Training Course.
* Pakistan Academy for Rural Development, Comilla in
Rural Development, Co-operative,
Management, Administration and Development
(09 months).
* International Seminar-Cum-Training on Disaster Management
& Planning in Moscow, USSR.
* Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre, Bangkok
He qualified as CMIBP from the Institute of Bankers
in Pakistan, Karachi and stood first on all Pakistan
basis with distinction in Book-Keeping. He also successfully
completed Part-1 of DAIBP from the same Institute.
Business
Venture -
On
his retirement from Govt. Service in 1993 Mr. A.Z.M
Hossain Khan started business with other friends and
relatives forming Private Limited Company of which he
was the Managing Director. He was also Managing Director
of German Bangla Joint Venture Food Ltd. He is the Managing
Director of Technopro Ltd.
